Answer to Armin Nawabi’s 1st Argument P-2: "Science explains life; God isn’t needed."

1.3 Argument Part: "Belief in God Is Often a Placeholder for ‘I Don’t Know’"

Refutation:

This is an inversion of reality. In truth, the statement “I don’t know” is far more common among atheists when they say things like “Maybe it happened on its own” or “We just don’t have the answer yet.” That is literally admitting a lack of explanation. Believers, on the other hand, do have an answer: God is the Originator, the Necessary Being who brought everything into existence.

Our belief is not based on a shrug of ignorance but on revelation, rational cosmology, the fine-tuning of the universe, the origin of life, and the reality of consciousness—all of which remain unexplained by purely naturalistic science.

The Quran calls us not to accept blind faith, but to use reason and observation to arrive at truth:

“Do they not reflect upon themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and everything between them for a purpose.”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:8)

So while atheists are left with uncertainty and speculation, believers have a coherent, purposeful explanation grounded in both reason and revelation.

1.4 Argument Part: "The Existence of God Raises More Questions Than It Answers"

Refutation:

This claim is based on a flawed assumption about God’s nature. God, by definition, is the uncaused, eternal, necessary being. The things that have to come to exist require a cause. God does not “begin” to exist; He is outside of time and creation, so asking “Who created God?” is like asking “What’s north of the North Pole?”—it’s a category error.

In fact, denying a Creator raises far more questions than affirming one. If there is no Creator, we must somehow believe that:

  • The universe came from nothing, without cause or reason.
  • Laws of physics “just exist” without any source.
  • Order and fine-tuning appeared spontaneously from chaos.

It is far more rational to accept that there is a Mind behind the order of reality than to believe everything is the product of blind chance. As the Quran affirms:

“He begets not, nor is He begotten.”
(Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:3)

Believing in a Creator gives a logical foundation; denying Him leaves an ocean of unanswered, unanswerable questions.

1.5 Argument Part: "Complexity Arises from Simple Rules - Complexity Does Not Implies Design"

Refutation:

William Paley’s watch analogy shows how we recognize design: if you find a watch on the beach, its intricate parts working together for a purpose clearly point to a watchmaker. The watch didn’t come from random chance; its complexity signals design.

Similarly, modern examples like John Conway’s Game of Life demonstrate how simple rules can generate surprisingly complex patterns. The Game of Life starts with basic, straightforward mathematical laws, yet produces intricate and evolving designs without outside interference.

But this leads to the deeper question:

  • who created these rules?
  • Who determined the parameters that allow such complexity to emerge?

The existence of elegant, consistent rules that govern the universe is itself a sign of intentional design at a fundamental level.

Thus, even if complexity emerges gradually from simplicity, the entire system—the laws, constants, and conditions enabling this emergence—reflects purposeful design. Denying a Designer ignores that the origins of these laws and their remarkable suitability for complexity remain unexplained by chance alone.

The Quran highlights this:

“He created everything and determined it with precise determination.”
(Surah Al-Furqan 25:2)

Therefore, the emergence of complexity from simple rules does not eliminate the need for a Designer. Instead, it points to an intelligent source who established the foundational framework allowing complexity to develop.
